Jobs lost as Shropshire developer Hawk Developments goes into liquidation

Hawk Developments had started work on a £4million development of 27 energy-efficient homes in Prees earlier this year

The Wem-based company was dissolved, resulting in the loss of 29 jobs.

Mike Kienlen and Daryl Warwick of Armstrong Watson LLP have been appointed joint liquidators.

Restructuring and insolvency partner Mr Warwick said: “I can confirm that Hawk Developments (UK) Ltd went into voluntary liquidation from creditors on 15 June 2022.

“I can also confirm that the business ceased operations prior to our involvement and that all 29 employees of the business were made redundant at the end of May 2022.”

Hawk Developments had started work on a £4 million community-led rural housing development of 27 energy-efficient homes in Prees earlier this year.

The homes in Whitchurch Road are the result of a partnership between local residents, the Wrekin Housing Group, Shropshire Council and the Press Parish Council.

A Wrekin Housing Group spokesperson said: “Wrekin Housing Group remains committed to providing affordable, community-run housing at the Whitchurch Road site in Prees.

“We are currently undertaking a new bidding process to appoint a new developer, and we are confident that on-site work can resume soon. We will continue to keep all partners updated on developments.”

Shropshire Council added: “Although we are very sad to see a local business go into liquidation, we anticipate that The Wrekin Housing Group will be able to bring in another building company to complete the build. The scheme Prees Housing will still be completed to the agreed specification, albeit a bit later than expected.”

No one from Hawk Developments was available for comment and its website was taken down.
